Discover Moale

Tim and Susan lived aboard from August 1999 with their two young daughters for about 5 and half years. The girls were aged 3 and 5 when the family packed up their Syndey home and busy world and took to a new life on the high seas. They spent much of the early time cruising on the Australian East Coast and in the Whitsundays (QLD), learning about the boat, sailing and working in the islands. In 2003 they took a year off and cruised across the Pacific to Fiji, via Norfolk Island and then back to Australia via Vanuatu and New Caledonia.  The following year they decided to return to Fiji, establish a business and put their daughters into a real school as the girls were keen to participate in team sports and other school activities they had missed while cruising and home-schooling.

With a background in aviation and business in Australia, Tim established Fiji’s first and only Tandem Skydiving company as well as a thriving watersports business servicing some of Denarau’s largest hotels. Deciding to settle in the beautiful Fiji Islands, the family built their dream waterfront home and moved ashore, and obtained a charter licence for their boat Moale. The girls attended the Nadi International IB School and being accomplished swimmers and athletes, they represented Fiji internationally in swimming and outrigger paddling. All members of the family are now dual Australian/Fijian citizens. Skydive Fiji continues to grow and their businesses interests have expanded over the last 10 years to include Helicopters, an aviation charter buisness, a flying school, aircraft engineering services plus the yacht charter business and they now have about 55 employees.

Moale is spacious and very well designed for relaxed family living. She has 4 large double sleeping cabins and lots of hatches for excellent airflow. The living area in the main saloon is like a family lounge room and the stability offered by catamaran sailing means that you don’t have to pack away your cocktails or belongings when you set sail. There are two bathrooms with full headroom and lots of storage lockers including hanging wardrobes. There is a large built-in settee in the living area, upholstered with a macro suede fabric which is fully washable and durable. There is storage under the seats and the table drops down, if required, to make up a king size bed and there are extra cushion inserts for this purpose.

The galley is in the starboard or right hull and is large and well appointed with excellent storage. A new gas cooktop was recently installed, there is a large BBQ on deck and the boat has the power to operate a blender. There are three large eutectic refrigeration units which run from a compressor on the starboard engine, two of which are also cooled with a 12 volt unit which means you have refrigeration without having to start the engine.

There is a large inflatable dinghy with an outboard that is used for getting to and from shore and also doubles as a safety emergency vessle.

Snorkeling equipment, fishing gear and some water craft toys are also provided.

The cockpit area is well protected in all kinds of weather and the high helm seat is large enough for two to three adults to sit on comfortably, when cruising. There are clear panels in the coach house roof so that sails can be easily viewed while at the helm. Moale was rigged for single handed sailing and almost everything to do with sailing can be managed from the cockpit area.

There are two large trampoline nets at the bow which are fabulous for lying/sleeping or sun-baking on. They can take the weight of people walking on them but are not suitable for jumping (or for a crowd of people to sit on). Surfboards and other water craft can be stored on the decks or in the hulls below. There are extra mattresses and bedding supplied for additional guests/children.

Moale comes fully crewed with a local skipper and fully qualifed chef, plus an expert Captain and boat manager. We supply stereo, dvd and Blue tooth for entertainment plus board games and cards.

The optimum number of people for overnight charters is 6 – 8 (3-4 couples) with floor space and extra mattresses provided for additional children if required. Moale offers unpretentious relaxed luxury. It is not 5 star, but is very comfortable and the privacy and exclusivity of your own floating accomodation is a unique and fabulous way to see the islands and enjoy Fiji’s beautiful sailing playground.

For surfers, Moale is the perfect platform to get up close and personal with surf breaks. Surfers can dodge the crowds and catch waves before and after the daytrippers and mainland tranfer guests. If the surf is not working at one break, the captain will weigh anchor and move, chasing the waves while guests enjoy the scenery, gett pampered by the crew, stoping for a swim or some snorkeling or fishing on the way.  Itineraries can be vaired to suit the particular interests of our guests. Whilst we don’t cater for scuba divers on board, we can organise to link up with lcoal dive companies at various resorts along the way.

There are not many charter boats in Fiji that offer liveaboard facilities and we are the only boat of our size and kind operating as a charter boat in the Fiji Islands. Moale’s charter rates include all food, non-alcoholic beverages, taxes, mooring fees, snorkel/mask sets, some fishing gear, all cleaning/linen and fuel and we are very well priced for small groups and families.
